According to Sky Sports Germany, Schlotterbeck has recovered from his injury and is expected to be selected for the next German national team squad, marking his first national team appearance since Klopp took over as manager.
After missing 84 days due to an ankle injury, Schlotterbeck finally returned to Dortmund's starting lineup. He played nearly 80 minutes in Dortmund's 3-0 victory over Paderborn and performed well overall.
After the match, Schlotterbeck told DAZN, "I feel great. We played a good game, so I'm happy." However, he also admitted that he felt noticeable fatigue towards the end of the game: "To be honest, this is the first time in my career that I've been a little tired in the final stages of a game, so I had to leave the field."
Whether Schlotterbeck will be included in Klopp's first squad under his management of the German national team still depends on the coach's decision. Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Booker, revealed after the match that the club has communicated with the German Football Association and Klopp regarding Schlotterbeck's national team prospects.
"Of course we've communicated with the German Football Association and spoken with Klopp. But we'll see what the final result will be then," he said.
Given that Schlotterbeck has just recovered from injury, the German team may be cautious in using him, giving him some protection or only allocating limited playing time.
