Dugarry recently criticized Mbappe for publicly discussing the Ballon d'Or, arguing that it was inappropriate for the French national team captain to talk about individual awards.
Ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League match against Inter Milan, Mbappe spoke about his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or. He said, "When you play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world, people naturally associate you with this award."
Mbappe also said: "I have always believed that I am the best, but everyone has their own opinion. This year may be a good opportunity for me to win the Ballon d'Or, but in the end, it is the journalists who vote."
Dugarry disagreed with Mbappe's statement. He said, "Publicly demanding such an individual award is childish and pathetic. There's nothing remarkable about asking for this award, especially since you're the national team captain."
Mbappé's closest brush with the Ballon d'Or was in 2023, when he finished third, behind Haaland and eventual winner Messi. Last year, the Ballon d'Or was won by Mbappé's French teammate, Dembélé.
The 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony will be held in London on October 26. Mbappe, Kane, and Yamal are among the leading contenders.
