Former Marseille sporting director, Moroccan Benatia, spoke about Mbappe's comments regarding the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé stated in an interview with France Football that he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or. This remark sparked heated debate in Europe and drew considerable sharp criticism.

Benatia addressed the topic this Sunday. The new Canal Football Club commentator explained why he disliked the Real Madrid striker's comments.

Benatia stated, "I greatly admire Mbappe, and he knows that. But I don't like his interviews. He clearly has a deep understanding of football, which I admire. However, I prefer Yamal's perspective to Mbappe's."

He continued, "Despite his young age, I think Yamal's expression is more elegant. I'm not questioning the players themselves. Kvalatschlia will be on the shortlist, and Dembele will be included; he has played a decisive role in all important matches. He scored six goals in the World Cup."

Benatia added: "I wouldn't be surprised if Mbappe wins the Ballon d'Or. He's the top scorer in the Champions League this season. He doesn't really need to say that, especially since he gets along well with the other competitors. It's a bit strange."
